While no major elevation is gained, you have the option of a short acclimatization hike toward Mawenzi Peak, Kilimanjaro’s dramatic and jagged secondary summit. This optional trek takes you through the heathland zone with its striking vegetation and panoramic views. Reaching around 4,000m, the hike helps prepare your body for the higher altitudes ahead. Afterward, return to the hut to rest, enjoy hot meals, and exchange stories with fellow climbers in the scenic surroundings. From here we descend, stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo before continuing on to the Horombo encampment.
