These playful and fast-moving primates offer a lively forest experience and excellent photography opportunities. After the trek, begin the cross-border drive into Uganda via the Cyanika or Katuna border. Continue through the Kigezi Highlands, often called the Switzerland of Africa, toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Enter the ancient rainforest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. The trek duration varies based on gorilla movements, terrain, and fitness levels, but the reward remains extraordinary. One hour spent observing gorillas in their natural habitat creates a powerful and emotional wildlife encounter. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and begin the long but scenic transfer to Kibale National Park. The route passes through rural landscapes, tea plantations, crater lakes, and sections of Queen Elizabeth region. Expect changing scenery and authentic local life along the way. The forest hosts one of the highest densities of primates in Africa. During the trek, encounter chimpanzees as they feed, groom, and move through the canopy, often accompanied by other monkey species and rich birdlife. Following the trek, return to the lodge for lunch before starting the journey back to Kigali. The drive leads south through Uganda, crossing back into Rwanda and continuing to Kigali for drop-off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of the safari.
