Rhino’s got extinct in Uganda in the early 1980s, and the Ziwa site is being used as a breeding site for the white Rhinos. Note that because of the current flooding of the Nile, it's no longer possible to hike to the top of the falls from downstream. The visit to the top of the falls will be driving through the new tarmac road. After the Top of the Falls visit, drive to Kibale National Park. The drive to Kibale National Park will go through western Uganda's major cities, including Hoima, Kyenjojo, and Fort Portal. There will be a scheduled stopover for lunch along the way. The drive should take about 6-7hrs. Dinner and overnight at Kibale National Park. Afterward, we proceed to the famed Kasenyi plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park to spot wild animals. Kasenyi plains dwell in the vast savannahs of the Albertine rift in Queen Elizabeth National Park. It will be a morning full of adventure! Expect to encounter lions, herds of buffalos, elephants, Uganda kobs, topi, and bushbucks. While spotting the "Big Five" in the park is not guaranteed, on a lucky day, you may site leopards to make it to the "Big Four." We will return to the lodge for lunch. Kazinga channel boat cruise After lunch, join the Kazinga channel boat cruise for an afternoon of wild game viewing. The tour will take you through the stunning landscapes of western Uganda. You will arrive at Bwindi National Park in the late afternoon. Ishasha sector for tree-climbing lions On the way to Bwindi National Park, we will drive through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, popularly known for its tree-climbing lions. Unlike their counterparts at the Kasenyi plains, the lions at Ishasha have found a way to climb the fig trees to enjoy the warm temperatures in the park. While the sighting of the tree-climbing lions is not 100% guaranteed, a stopover at Ishasha is worth a visit! The national park guide will conduct a presentation that covers the basics of what to expect during the gorilla trek. The national guide will assign the gorilla trekking group during the pre-trekking briefing. Other visitors will likely join you. The gorilla trek can take a few hours, depending on how far the gorillas are inside the forest. In the afternoon, you may consider doing a Batwa Cultural Tour and contributing to sustainable tourism efforts in the area. An extra payment of USD30 is expected to support the Batwa community.
