Upon landing, you can use this time to change your currency into Kwacha, a Zambian currency, and transfer to wild dog lodge, where you will spend a night before the safari starts. Day 2Fika lodge Fika lodge After breakfast, we pack our luggage and drive to Mukushi, on the way will stop in kabwe city and add up on our groceries, and have a quick lunch. We will stop over at Fika lodge for a night and proceed the following morning to kasanka national park. We will provide all meals. There will be no activity on this day. You'll likely head to a treetop hide like Fibwe, where you can watch the sky "rain" bats as they drop into the evergreen swamp forest. Afterward, begin your walking safari. The cooler hours are perfect for tracking elusive Sitatunga antelopes in the marshes or spotting rare birds like the Pel’s fishing owl while your guide decodes tracks and signs in the miombo woodland. Afternoon: The Dusk Departure Following a midday siesta, set out on a guided walk through the riverine forest. Your guide will highlight the unique flora that sustains the ecosystem. As the sun dips, find a strategic clearing or platform. The highlight is the dusk departure: a breathtaking spectacle where 10 million bats take flight at once, darkening the sky in a swirling cloud of wings. Day 6Transfer to bangweulu wetland Transfer to bangweulu wetland After a hearty breakfast, you’ll trade the forests of Kasanka for the vast, watery wilderness of the Bangweulu Wetlands. The drive transitions into an open landscape of floodplains and lily-covered lagoons, the primary haunt of the prehistoric Shoebill stork. After a quick midway lunch, you’ll reach Nsobe Camp. If time allows, an afternoon drive offers your first glimpse of the endemic Black Lechwe gathering by the thousands. As the sun sets over the horizon, you’ll settle into your campsite for a night under the stars, surrounded by the wild symphony of the swamps. You’ll head into the heart of the swamps aboard a mukolo—a traditional dugout canoe—allowing you to glide silently through the papyrus to find this prehistoric bird in its natural habitat. Day 9Transfer to Mutinondo Wilderness Transfer to Mutinondo Wilderness Mutinondo Wilderness is a private paradise of granite "whaleback" inselbergs and crystal-clear rivers. Morning: High-Altitude Hiking Start with a sunrise hike up Mayense, the highest peak, for 360-degree views of the Luangwa Valley. The cool morning air is ideal for exploring the 75km trail network. Guided or solo, you can trek through miombo woodlands to discover ancient San rock art or spot rare birds like the Bar-winged Weaver. Afternoon: Waterfalls & Rivers As the day warms up, take a leisurely walk to Choso or Ndubaluba Falls. The rivers here are croc- and bilharzia-free, making the rock pools perfect for a refreshing swim. You can also grab a canoe to paddle along the Musamfushi River, ending your day with a sundowner atop a nearby granite dome to watch the wilderness turn to gold.
