Iconic Elephant Sightings in Tarangire
Day 2Iconic Elephant Sightings in Tarangire Iconic Elephant Sightings in Tarangire Today, your safari takes you to Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s most exciting wildlife spots! The Tarangire River runs through the park, attracting giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and buffaloes —along with the lions that follow them. You’re almost certain to see these majestic predators! During the dry season, the river becomes the only water source for miles, drawing huge elephant herds. Tarangire has Northern Tanzania’s largest elephant population for much of the year (especially June–October and December–March). These gentle giants aren’t shy and often come close to safari vehicles —completely safe, as they have no natural enemies and are simply curious. Exploring Tarangire
Day 3Exploring Tarangire Exploring Tarangire Day two in Tarangire brings even more discoveries! Your Altezza guide will take you to parts of the park you didn’t get to explore yesterday—scenic spots, hidden corners, and plenty of wildlife action. Tarangire is home to some rare species you might not even spot in the Serengeti, like elegant oryx and the quirky long-necked gerenuks. Keep an eye out for hyraxes too—tiny, adorable creatures that happen to be elephants’ closest relatives (really!). They’re fun to watch and often let you get pretty close for great photos—just remember, no touching! Bird enthusiasts are in for a treat: Tarangire is a haven for over 550 bird species! And with high-quality binoculars in the car, you’ll have a front-row seat to all the feathered action. Setting Off to the Otherwordly Lake Natron
Day 4Setting Off to the Otherwordly Lake Natron Setting Off to the Otherwordly Lake Natron Today you’ll explore the remote and otherworldly beauty of Lake Natron—a place so unique, it’s often featured in wildlife magazines. It’s the only lake on Earth with naturally red-colored water, thanks to special bacteria that thrive in its alkaline waters. The vivid color is best seen from above, but the landscape here is stunning from every angle. Despite its wild charm, Natron is peaceful and uncrowded. You might spot giraffes, zebras, ostriches, and antelopes roaming the open plains. It’s a perfect start or finish to any northern Tanzania safari, especially if you’re craving solitude and wide-open views. It does get pretty warm during the day, but there’s a lovely way to cool off: a dip in nearby natural springs! The water flows straight from the Ngorongoro highlands, rich in minerals and crystal clear. Some say it’s great for your bones—we say it’s just plain refreshing. Flamingo Walks at Lake Natron
Day 5Flamingo Walks at Lake Natron Flamingo Walks at Lake Natron Lake Natron is a true paradise for bird lovers, especially if you’re a fan of flamingos! Both large and small flamingos gather here in the tens of thousands—a breathtaking sight when they all take flight in a sea of shimmering pink. These birds love Lake Natron for its safety: the highly alkaline water keeps predators away, making it the world’s most important breeding site for Lesser Flamingos. From August to November, over 75% of them are born right here! With binoculars, you might spot tiny gray chicks wobbling along the shore—soon to turn pink as they grow. It’s a magical moment to witness! And flamingos aren’t the only stars. Pelicans and a variety of other birds thrive around the lake too. In the wild, they’re lively, social, and completely different from their zoo-dwelling cousins—full of energy and fun to watch! By evening, you will get back to your hotel near Ngorongoro and Manyara Escarpment area - ready for the next-day fantastic trip to the ancient crater! Main Destination: Lake Natron Accommodation: Mawe Mawe Lodge Luxury lodge located on the escarpment above Lake Manyara NP Meals & Drinks: All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Searching for Black Rhinos at Ngorongoro Crater
Day 6Searching for Black Rhinos at Ngorongoro Crater Searching for Black Rhinos at Ngorongoro Crater On this day, we highly recommend leaving the hotel as early as possible. Your breakfast will be packed in lunchboxes specifically for this purpose. This way you will catch the precious morning hours in the Ngorongoro Crater when the animals are most active and extremely engaging to watch. At 6:30 AM you will set off for Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and in about an hour you will already be inside the crater. Ngorongoro is one of the most famous and exciting of Tanzania's national parks! Here you can find the highest concentration of animals and the widest diversity per square kilometer. You will have the chance to see buffalos, elephants, lions, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, and such feline species as caracals and servals. The luckiest travelers might even see rhinos, whose numbers are rapidly declining today. You will have lunch near the lake inhabited by hippos and continue your safari around the crater. Closer to the evening, you will start the drive towards your hotel in Arusha.
