You'll begin your adventure with a scenic drive from Robe or Goba town toward Dinsho, the headquarters of Bale Mountains National Park. Upon arrival at the park office, you’ll meet your local guide and scout (required). Your first walk will be around the Dinsho forest and Gaysay Valley, one of the best places in Ethiopia to see endemic mammals. Mountain nyala (found only in Bale), Menelik’s bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, Warthogs, and possibly Ethiopian wolves in the distance, birdlife such as Abyssinian catbirds, blue-winged geese, and thick-billed ravens.. After lunch, you'll begin your ascent to the Sanetti Plateau (altitude ~4,000 meters), the largest Afro-alpine habitat in Africa. As you drive or walk across the plateau, keep your eyes peeled for the Ethiopian wolf, the world’s rarest canid, which is found only in Ethiopia, and in its largest numbers here. Then, you'll descend from the plateau to the mystical Harenna Forest, one of the last remaining cloud forests in Ethiopia, located on the southern escarpment of the park. The forest is lush, humid, and home to a wide range of biodiversity. You'll trek through towering fig trees, bamboo groves, and moss-covered trunks, searching for: Colobus monkeys and baboons, Rare birds like the Abyssinian oriole, yellow-fronted parrots, and African crowned eagles, Endemic plants, mushrooms, and medicinal herbs, Unique insects and butterflies. Depending on your energy and interest, choose from: You'll enjoy a short hike to a hidden waterfall deep in the forest. A loop through the bamboo trail, known for its bird watching, and a cultural visit to a nearby Oromo village to learn about traditional forest use and honey production. The golden light transforms the alpine landscape into a surreal scene. With fewer vehicles, this is a great time to spot more Ethiopian wolves, foxes, and highland birds. If time permits, you'll visit Tullu Dimtu, the second-highest peak in Ethiopia. The view from the top is breathtaking rolling moorlands, vast skies, and glimpses of distant ranges. Optional light hiking around the peak area for final photos and fresh air. You'll transfer to Robe Airport for your domestic flight to Addis Ababa (usually 1 hour), or continue by road depending on your travel plan. End of tour.
